Hilda sits at the table in front of a typewriter smoking and examining the paper in the platen. Aldington is by the bed putting on his gear to leave for Officers Training Camp. Lawrence is in the overstuffed chair scribbling on a writing pad, Bella sits at the table opposite Hilda. She is primping in a hand mirror with doll-like motions. All have teacups they visit on the table.

PRELUDE: Hilda, Lawrence, Aldington, Bella

ALL: Oh the times! Oh the customs!
Oh the times! Oh the customs!

Oh the cosmic comic crucifying times!
It was a time of isms! And the ballet!
It was a time of isms! And the ballet!

Introvert! Extrovert! Victim! Victimizer!
We had no names for these things.

ALDINGTON: Extrovert!
HILDA: Introvert!
BELLA: Victim!
LAWRENCE: Victimizer!

ALL: We did not yet have names for such things.

It was a time of isms! And the ballet!
It was a time of isms! And the ballet!
We were part of an experiment or play.

We walked among stones
Paving stones, tomb-stones.
We were part of an experiment or play.
