There is no refrain from social media and its tolls. Young people, both men, and women – the impressionable – are faced with a barrage of unceasing imagery with the tacit message: you SHOULD, MUST strive to be and act like this or you are nothing.
Flooded with these types of images every day, young, impressionable women especially feel the need to conform. Alas, what was initially thought to be a stroll to a field of bounties turns out to be a steep, never-ending climb to a destination unknown and unseen.
It is a vicious cycle of glorify and desire, reduce, move, compensate, move more, abstain, otherwise get eaten. A mind, body and soul shattering process, which breeds shame, guilt, isolation and self-flatulence. A process that one isn’t aware they are in, until it’s too late and they find themselves consumed. A toxic mentality that breathes under the skin.
