Here’s Deirdre’s experience of working with Ghost Ranch, in her own words…
Tell us about your company
My name is Deirdre Mahon. I am Head of Marketing at Honeycomb.
Honeycomb is a San Francisco based startup that has a tool for software developers and engineers to better manage their production systems.
What specific problem were you looking to solve, that led you to discover Ghost Ranch?
As we were going up market and selling to larger organizations and to economic buyers within those large organizations, we needed a polished pitch deck, and that was one of the first things that I did with Ghost Ranch and the team.
What were the pain points of not having a solution to that problem?
One of the hard things about developing a pitch deck is that there are so many things to say, especially when your product has a large number of differentiators in the market, and is unique and solving the problem in a very different way.
Getting it down to that five or six polished slides for an account executive to share in a 10 minute introductory call, that’s hard to do.
Did you consider any other options?
I’ve worked in a variety of startups, so you don’t always have the skillset and the expertise on a small team of three – four people.

The thing that Ghost Ranch brings is that they know PowerPoint. I don’t mean justl the features and the capabilities that the tool has, but they know what looks good and what doesn’t look good.

The other thing that they’re really good at is understanding the audience.
When did you realize working with Ghost Ranch was producing results?
I completed a creative brief and then I shared that with them. We got on a call and I would imbibe my ideas but there’s no way I’d be able to recreate it in PowerPoint.

I would share with Ghost Ranch; “Here’s the audience, here’s the persona of the recipient of this. Here’s what they feel like, here’s their demographic.” Then they come back with some magic, literally.

They came back with some options for what a visual would look like. It’s amazing what they can do in a very short space of time. They can turn stuff around super fast with very high quality and give you a lot to work with, so that you can make a decision pretty fast.
What were the big wins have you achieved by working with Ghost Ranch?
There is a huge time savings for me, in terms of just having to go in and modify and edit slides every month, which I have done in past lives. I’ve done that and it’s painful and time consuming, if your sales team don’t like it, that’s never a good thing.

I will say thumbs up [to Ghost Ranch] because that’s a savings right there, and I’m sure it’s helping drive revenue.
How did you find the responsiveness and speed of the Ghost Ranch team?
The team at Ghost Ranch are highly responsive.

One of the things we did was a Sprint. You can do two days or half a day where your coworking and collaborating together, and then Ghost Ranch go away and create something.

When you come back the next day, you see the fruits of the labor and you can comment on that and make edits, and then in a matter of a few days, you’ve got a polished deck.
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
Our audience is developers, and one of the things that they don’t like is the standard PowerPoint boxes and colors. They want to be entertained, they want something interesting.

Allie at Ghost Ranch is an amazing illustrator, and we incorporated her illustrations into our slides. It gives it some whimsy and some interest. That’s gone down really well with our audience.

We’ve actually incorporated the style into more of our business fundraising decks as well. It’s become part of the brand personality of Honeycomb.
What would you say to someone thinking of working with Ghost Ranch?
I would definitely try Ghost Ranch.

Don’t think of Ghost Ranch as just people who improve, polish and create slides for you, they can actually be instrumental in driving your brand look and feel and what it means for your business.
