At first glance, it’s hard to know what you are looking at and difficult to imagine what the final outcome will be, but these anamorphic glass sculptures by Austrian visual designer Thomas Medicus are nothing short of mesmerizing.

The magic is in the details of the 144 hand-painted and laser cut glass strips that go into a wooden based glass cube and reveal new images when rotated or looked at from different angles.

The light angles create an illusion dimmed by the natural light in the room. You can see examples below in pieces titled “Head Instructor” “Emulsifier” and “What is it Like to be.” The latter title is inspired by “A Paper” by American philosopher Thomas nagel.
