This program will provide advice and guidance for participants who are interested in advocating for their issues/organizations with legislators and legislative bodies. This will include examples of common mistakes that “civilians” make, both in preparation and execution. It will include a discussion on the role of professional government relations people and how to best utilize their expertise in developing an effective strategy on behalf of your organization or issue. The goal is to provide information and ideas that will be applicable to developing an effective strategy not just on a few issues, but on any issue participants might be facing.

Participants will understand the challenges that non-professionals will face in advocating for their issues and organizations in a legislative or governmental setting.
Participants will gain an understanding of some strategies that will allow them to become effective advocates.
